Sr. Engineer EHS and Sustainability

Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations (GPCB, CPCB, MoEF, Factory Act, etc.), Manage Consent to Operate (CTO/CCA), renewals, and amendments, Maintain statutory records and coordinate environmental audits and inspections, Monitor emissions, effluents, hazardous waste, and ensure adherence to limits.
  2. Coordinate with internal teams (Production, Maintenance, HR, Finance) for compliance and reporting, Support sustainability audits, certifications (e.g., IGBC, ISO 14001), and benchmarking initiatives
  3. Handling of operations related to ETP & STP, Hazardous waste. Ensure effective handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, Drive waste minimization and co-processing initiatives, Maintain compliance with hazardous waste rules and documentation
  4. Sustainability & ESG Initiatives – Drive site-level sustainability programs including water conservation, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and waste reduction, Support execution and tracking of Scope 1 & 2 GHG reduction targets, Lead projects aligned with ZLD, green energy, and circular economy principles, Support global sustainability reporting (e.g., dashboards, platforms like Origami),
  5. Assess and Mitigate Risks - Identify EHS risks and define proactive mitigations. Support operation teams on HIRA and review the HIRA and operational controls. Ensure that site investment and changes in processes, equipment, and systems are carried out in accordance with the concepts of EHS by design and relevant EHS requirements.
  6. Review EHS data and trends to develop clear action plans to manage short-term and long term EHS risk, including but not limited to: environmental impact assessments, job safety analysis and risk assessments, physical demand assessments and related ergonomic exposures (office, operations). 
  7. Design and Implement Annual EHS Plan - In collaboration with the site leadership team, create, implement, monitor and update the site EHS plan.
  8. Provide technical support related to permits, authorizations, capital projects, and other EHS compliance concerns. Prepares required reports, plans and other government filings while ensuring timely and accurate submission.
  9. Provide educational training and facilitate communication activities to build management and employee understanding and commitment to EHS compliance with emphasis on EHS management and statutory regulations, requirements under Kohler Safety and Environment Management systems as well as new associate orientation. 
  10. Monitor, Analyze  and Share EHS Information - Provide necessary information and data to site managers and supervisors, in order to support the achievement of EHS objectives and enhance Co. reputation.
  11. Promote a Sustainable EHS Culture - Create and maintain an EHS culture throughout the site that inspires a proactive attitude and a firm belief that ‘target zero’ is achievable. Create a space where people can speak openly and are encouraged to present new ideas about EHS stewardship.
  12. Provide Expertise, Guidance, Coaching and Training - Develop and implement training programs, provide coaching, expertise and guidance to managers and employees of the site.
  13. Lead Continuous EHS Improvement - Lead continuous improvement in EHS using Operational Excellence principles and visible-felt leadership to achieve 'target zero' goals and to enable compliant operations and business effectiveness.
  14. Conduct regular EHS compliance audits and inspections of buildings, operations, and related EHS/Fire equipment.
  15. Facilitates effective safety committees for each site supported. 
  16. Conduct all EHS incident investigations to assure corrective measures are completed on time and assist them with identifying and addressing the incident’s root cause. 

Education and Experience Experience Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Engineering/Science/Environment,  Exposure to the management systems such as ISO 14001; ISO 45001.
  2. Requires at least 5-7 years of experience, preferably with proven experience in an Environment, Sustainability and safety of a manufacturing environment.
  3. The incumbent must have varied experience of working in organizations with diverse environmental requirements. Essential to have world-class experience in Environment, Sustainability and safety Management practices and systems.
  4. Technical understanding of Environmental & Sustainability requirement across diverse and complex businesses. Requires advanced knowledge in GPCB/CPCB related task (Preparation & Filing forms, EPR registration and filing etc).
  5. Strong organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills are essential. 
  6. Position is action-oriented requiring the incumbent to creatively plan and execute various safety and environmental activities with limited resources.

Professional Knowledge:      

  1. Adequate technical knowledge in EHS & Sustainability (such as: WWTP, ZLD, Waste, Water, Air emissions, GHG, HW Management, Internal auditor for 14001, PTW,HIRA, JSA, Machine safety, Electrical safety, Contractor safety management, Audit and Inspection, Industrial Hygiene, Hazard communication, Ergonomics, and EHS Management Systems).
  2. Extensive knowledge of Safety & Environmental laws and regulations, local current and upcoming legislation and current best EHS practices.
  3. Basic project management knowledge and experience.
